Three Dimensional Design

It has emerged! I was beginning to fear that my plaster mold would never release from the wooden block. After a week, I decided to lift it up a butter knife. In the process, I chipped off the uppermost portion of the composition – which is disappointing, but not the worst case scenario. I spent some time sanding the mold and removing the rough edges, however, I am also planning to further refine some areas of the composition before I begin casting. In terms of my plans for casting, I have shredded small pieces of colored construction paper and left them to soak for the paper cast. I plan to pour concrete in the mold tomorrow, and, as for the third casting medium, I would like to use chocolate. Hope you all are doing well!

Hi all. I chose to explore the possibilities within my ice cream swirl sketch and create an organic, elevated composition out of foam core board and oil clay. I will be creating my plaster mold tomorrow – I just hope it is dry enough to be casted into this weekend. I am really looking forward to casting this composition in materials such as chocolate and hard candy. I hope you all are well!

Hi there! This assignment was a whirlwind of emotions – especially concerning the chiseling of the form and the application of the plaster. The part of the process I enjoyed most was the implementation of texture in the forms of jewelry beads and gold leaf. I am also pleased with the addition of the painted rebar tie wire, although I do wish I would have added one or two more strings of wire. I believe the color palette complements the form well; however, I am upset that I decided to eliminate deep violet from the equation. I believe it would have complemented the gold accents and added more depth and richness to the inner textured elements. Overall, I am pleased with the finished product – despite my adversity with the plaster. I definitely learned several valuable lessons within this process, and I hope to explore various concepts with plaster in the future.
